摘要

Abstract

Topological insulators have bulk band gap like ordinary insulators but have conducting states on their edge or surface which were protected by symmetry and non-trivial topological invariant.The relationship between TIs and the family of Quantum Hall Effect was presented here, as well as those between the magneto-electric effect of three-dimensional TIs and the Cold-Dark Mater of axion from the perspective of the origins of axion models.We found that they have in common on their topological properties of electronic band structure and the structure of the QCD vacuum.So they have similar description of electromagnetic response , but different in origin .Axions which may be detected by the proposed TMI experiments are extrinsic rather than intrinsic.
