Abstract

The structural characteristics of a tuned damper system for a floating rail fastener used in a rail subway system are introduced. The tuned damper system has been designed based on the dynamic absorber theory to reduce rail vibration in the frequency range below 2 000 Hz. The side supporters of rubber wedge of the fastener contain several tuned masses. The rail vibration energy can be transferred and absorbed by the tuned masses so that the rail vibration and noise radiation can be reduced. Measurement results in Chengdu Metro Line 1 show that comparing with DVT I2 fastener track, the vertical vibration of the rail can be reduced by 1.5 dB and the horizontal vibration can be reduced by 0.8 dB with the use of this fastener system. Thus, this system provides an approach to solve the problem of rail vibration induced by softer rail fasteners.
