Abstract

Rail corrugation of metro lines can deteriorate the wheel-rail contact behavior, cause fierce wheel-rail impacts, reduce the service lifespan of vehicle and track parts, affect the running safety of metro vehicles, and increase the maintenance and operating costs noticeably. Rail grinding is an important and effective measure to control the rail corrugation in metro line maintenance. But the key problem is how to determine the corrugation depth limit for the grinding of the rails. In this paper, a metro vehicle-track dynamic model was developed to evaluate the effects of rail corrugation on the operation safety of metro vehicles. And the allowable corrugation amplitude of the metro lines with the vehicle traveling at 80 km/h speed was determined based on the vehicle-track dynamic simulations and the assessment quantities for the vehicle operation safety. The results obtained in this investigation may be helpful for the track maintenance of metro lines.
