Abstract

The cogging torque of an interior permanent magnet motor under dynamic air-gap eccentricity conditions was analyzed. 2-dimensional finite element approach was applied in the calculation of cogging torque. The variations of cogging torque under different levels of dynamic eccentricity were compared. It is found that the existence of dynamic air-gap eccentricity would introduce torque fluctuation. In the initial stage of dynamic air-gap eccentricity fault, the variation of cogging torque is not very distinct. When the level of dynamic air-gap eccentricity reaches a certain level, the cogging torque may increase at a rapid speed.
