Abstract

With oil and gas exploitation and production moving from land to deep sea, preventing gas hydrate blockage of pipelines became a major safety challenge. CO2 gas hydrate formation and flow characteristics in pipeline were investigated. The results showed that gas hydrates almost form simultaneously at the different sections of horizontal pipe with the same diameter and small hydrate particles suspended in the pipe at the beginning, then aggregated and existed in flocculent form; with 4% of the water conversing to hydrate, there was no blockage in the pipe; and the formation of CO2 gas hydrate could result in flow resistance increasing and liquid flow rate?decreasing momentarily.
