Modeling Simulation and Control of Turning Chatter Based on Variable Structure Parameters

Abstract
To suppress the chatter phenomenon in turning process, an electro-rheological fluid (ERF) damper of lathe’s tool carriages was developed. Firstly, the mechanical model of the turning system with ERF damper was established, and the influence of damping ratio and stiffness of the turning system on the stability of turning process was analyzed. Then, using the square root difference and self-correlation coefficient of the vibration response as a comprehensive criterion for chatter prediction, a neural network control system based on the function of on-line monitoring and adaptive control for turning chatter was developed. Finally, neural network control tests based on the ERF for the turning chatter were conducted. The results show that the control voltage corresponding to the best damping effect is not the same under different turning conditions. The control system can predict turning chatter effectively and adjust the control voltage adaptively so that the acceleration response is reduced and the turning chatter is inhibited.关键词
