Effects of Dietary Protein Levels on Growth Performance, Serum Biochemical Indices and Carcass Characteristics of Fattening Dongchuan Pigs

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different dietary crude protein levels on growth perform-ance, serum biochemical indices and carcass characteristics of fattening Dongchuan pigs. Forty-eight Dong-chuan pigs were randomly assigned to 3 groups with 4 replicates per group and 4 pigs per replicate ( half male and half female) . The pigs were fed with diets containing 11.5% ( low protein group) , 12.5% ( medium pro-tein group) and 13.5% ( high protein group) crude protein, respectively. The feeding transition period lasted for 3 days and the feeding period lasted for 80 days. The results showed that the final weight of high protein group was significantly higher than that of low protein group ( P<0.05) , and average daily gain, average daily feed intake, feet to gain of high protein group were slightly improved comparing with low protein group. The serum creatinine content of high protein group was significantly higher than that of low protein group ( P<0.05) . Moreover, the loin eye area and lean meat percentage of high protein group were increased to some ex-tent compared with low protein group, and the loin eye area was enhanced by 41.05%. In conclusion, the ap-propriate crude protein level for fattening Dongchuan pigs can be set as 13. 5%.关键词
