Abstract
Objective To investigate the influence factors on molar pulp devitalization with paraformaldehyde. Meth-ods 240 molars which were diagnosed as pulpititis were devitalized with paraformaldehyde. The molars were randomly divided into three groups according to the opening dimensions of pulp chamber. The diameter of opening was <1 mm, 1-2 mm or >2 mm respectively. Each group was also randomly divided into three sub-groups according to the duration of pulp devitalization. The duration was 10, 14 or 18 days respectively. The results of pulp devitalization were evaluated by pain index during pulpectomy. The effects of opening dimensions of pulp chamber and duration were assessed on the results of pulp devitalization. Results The total success rate of molar pulp devitalization was 0% ( <1 mm) , 73. 33%( 1-2 mm) and 94. 44% ( >2 mm) respectively, the difference was significant ( P<0. 05) . The prolonged duration could not significantly enhance the success rate of molar pulp devitalization. The age didn”t influence pulp devitalization with paraformaldehyde. Conclusion There was no effect of duration and age of pulp devitalization with paraformalde-hyde. The opening dimensions of pulp chamber could significantly influence the success rate of molar pulp devitalization. The effect of pulp devitalization was best when the opening diameter of pulp chamber were >2 mm.关键词
