Abstract

Pressurized liquid extraction ( PLE) technology was used to extract pomegranate see d oil from pomegranate seeds with ethanol. To obtain the highest extraction efficiency,several influential parameters of PLE procedure ( extraction temperature,pressure,solid⁃liquid ratio and time) were studied by response surface methodology. The optimized process was obtained:ethanol as extraction solvent with a liquid to solid ratio of 33∶1,temperature of 98 ℃,pressure of 0�25 MPa for 30 minutes. Compared with solvent reflux extraction,PLE got great extraction efficiency with 5⁃fold reduction in extraction time and 2⁃fold high in extraction yield. The results indicate that PLE with ethanol may be a useful method for extracting less polar compound from medicinal plants and herbs.
