Abstract

In order to find the differences of histomorphology between lean and fat pigs, 12-month old Huai sows, 7-month old Huai and Duroc sows were were selected. The leaf fat, adipo-vascular axis and the subcutaneous adipose tissue of back and abdomen were collected immediately after the slaughter. We made paraffine section in series to measure the major fat morphological quantitative in-dicators, such as the major axis, minor axis and area. The result showed that the fat deposition of pigs were different between different pig breeds, the fat deposition of Huai pigs were more than Duroc pigs. The volume, major axis and average diameter of adipocyte in Huai pigs were significantly larger than Duroc pigs (P<0.05). The diameter and area of subcutaneous fat cells were significantly larger than visceral fat cells in the individual.
