摘要

Abstract

In order to solve the problem of using steel slag with a low hydraulic activity, a possibility of removing the inert mineral RO phase (divalent metal oxides solid solution) from steel slag was investigated. The petrography characteristics of the steel slag samples were examined. The mechanical properties, mass susceptibility and specific resistance of RO phase and its associated minerals were analyzed that were experimentally verified by steel slag beneficiation.The results show that the percentage of RO phase in the steel slag is 20%–30%, and the average particle size is 31–45μm. The RO phase is a hard constituent with the greatest density in the mineral composition, and it concentrates in the coarse fraction and the heavier components of steel slag powder. The RO phase content in the coarse fraction is 2.3 times greater than that of the fine fraction after air classification by a swirling separator. Since the RO phase belongs to a medium magnetic mineral, and the associated minerals belong to non-magnetic minerals, the RO phase can be separated by a magnetic separator with medium magnetic intensity. The RO phase can be also recycled by electrostatic separation due to its electric conductivity. The higher FeO/MgO mole ratio in RO phase’s chemical composition is, the more efficient separation process will be. Oxidizing roasting of the steel slag manifests beneficial effect to magnetic separation of RO phase, but unfavourable function for electrostatic separation.
