Abstract

To investigate the effect ofVibrio anguillarum challenge on the non-specific immune related indexes of Penaeus monodon, healthyP. monodon were injected with sterile 0.86% normal saline andV. anguillarum, respec-tively. Total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), lysozyme (LSZ), and nitrio oxide synthase (iNOS) activities and nitrio oxide (NO) content in hepatopancreas and gills ofP. monodon were measured at different sampling time point. The results showed that: compared with the control group, after challenged withV. anguillarum, T-AOC activities in hepatopancreas and gills both increased to the highest at 6 and 12 h (P<0.05), respectively, and then decrease gradually. LSZ activities in hepatopancreas and gills increased to the peak value at 6 and 12 h (P<0.05), respec-tively, and then decreased gradually to a lower level than the control at 24 h (P<0.05). NO content increased sig-nificantly to the highest at 6 and 3 h, respectively, then decreased to the lowest at 24 h. Although the NO content in gills showed a downward tendency, it was still significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). iNOS in hepa-topancreas was sensitive toV. anguillarum challenge, and the activity increased to the highest at 3 h, but iNOS activities in gills began to increase significantly at 6 h and reach the highest at 12 h (P<0.05). The results indicated thatV. anguillarum challenge had significant impact on the immune enzyme activities ofP. monodon. T-AOC, LSZ, NO and iNOS were all sensitive toV. anguillarum challenge, and could be regarded as monitor indexes forVibrio diseases.
