Abstract

To study the corner performance of detonation waves for TATB-based and CL-20-based polymer bonded explosive(PBX),the breakout angles,failure angles and delay time of PBX-Ⅰcontaining 95%TATB ,PBX-Ⅱ containing 95%CL-20,and PBX-Ⅲ containing 81.5%CL-20 and 13.5%Al with initiating diameters of 10 mm and 6 mm were studied by Mushroom test.The detonation propagation characteristics and corner properties of three kinds of PBX explosive charge were discussed.Results show that,the first breakout angle and failure angle of PBX-Ⅰ(22.7°and 31.9°,respectively) were significantly smaller than those of PBX-Ⅱ (90°for both)with initiating diameter of 10 mm,the first breakout angles and failure angles of PBX-Ⅱ and PBX-Ⅲ were all 90°with initiating diameters of 10 mm and 6 mm,and the detonation waves of PBX-Ⅱand PBX-Ⅲ can develop to similar hemispherical shape.Thus,for CL-20-based PBXs,their hemispherical charge could transmit detonation wave reliably in spite of the addition of Al powders and the decrease of initiation diameter, which implies that CL-20-based explosives have excellent performance of corner turning.When CL-20 is all substituted by TATB ,both the first breakout angle and failure angle decrease significantly,which means that TATB-based explosives have poor performance of corner turning.The corner performance of detonation waves for the three kinds of explosive decreases in the order:PBX-Ⅱ>PBX-Ⅲ>PBX-Ⅰ.
