Effect of Organic Mulch on Soil Moisture of Urban Landscape Plants

Abstract
Through indoor potted tests , we studied the effects of covering the ground with 5 kinds of organic materials ( saw-dust, pine needle, nuclear squama, bark, dried leaf) on soil moisture of urban landscape plants .The results showed that covering Manila grassland and Camellia sasanqua shrub land with pine needle , nuclear squama , bark and dried leaf had significant water -retaining effects , and covering Manila grassland with bark and covering Camellia sasanqua shrub land with dried leaf had the best effects.The water retention effect of covering with sawdust was the poorest , and its soil moisture content was lower than that of the control.In conclusion, pine needle, nuclear squama, bark and dried leaf are good water -retention materials for soil.关键词
