Abstract

  In order to optimize the system design of reverse osmoses (RO) for a mine drainage water treatment engineering as a case, this paper discusses the key design factors involving design water temperature, design recovery rate, numbers of RO membrane elements and arrangement types, by adopting the method combined analysis investigation with engineering practices. According to the water quality characteristics and the process requirements, the design water temperature of 25℃ is presented by calculation and comparison, and the checked condition is given as well. The design recovery rate of 60% and the limited recovery rate of 67% are determined by analyzing the main scaling components. Adopting the membrane element numbers of 144 and the configuration of one pass and two stages are considered by analyzing the effects on the water system caused by different membrane components and arrangement types. The engineering operation practice shows that the designed and operated RO system adopted the method reduces the scaling risks of RO membranes, has the benefits of stable operation for a long time, and has some guiding significance for designing and running the RO systems to treat mine drainage water.
