Abstract
Objective To explore the effect of depilatory cream in orthopedic pre-operative skin preparation. Methods A quasi-experimental study was used and a convenient sample of two hundred and sixty patients of orthopedics was enrolled. Patients were divided into intervention group (n=130) and control group (n=130) in time sequence. In control group disposable razor for skin preparation was used, but in interventional group Fujing depilatory cream. Surgical site infections, postoperative wound healing, quality of skin preparation, time of skin preparation, patient satisfaction, cost of the consumables in two groups were compared. Results There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of surgical site infections on discharge day and 30 days after surgery and postoperative wound healing (P>0.05). The quality of skin preparation in intervention group was significantly better than that of control group (P<0.05). The time of skin preparation was significantly longer in intervention group than that in control group (P<0.05). The patients were more satisfied with depilatory cream in terms of pain, itchiness, cuts and redness (P<0.05). The total cost was higher but good effect in intervention group (P<0.05). Conclusion Skin preparation with depilatory cream costs more but it is effective in orthopedic pre-operative skin preparation.关键词
