Abstract
Lhasa, an ancient city with more than 1300 years of history, is the main area of Tibetan Buddhism. With the start of the construction of the Jokhang temple, Lhasa began to take its own form. During this process, the Tibetan Buddhism deeply affected the formation and development of Lhasa. The turning scripture is the main way of Tibetan Buddhism’s practice. In Lhasa's urban development process,circumambulation as the main carrying space for the turning scripture, was developed. At the same time, it brought profound influence to Lhasa’s architectural environment and urban form. With the rapid modern development, the contradiction between the old religious space and city construction has become much more severe and obvious. Thus, it is significant to find out the contradiction between them. And through the analysis of the pros and cons of circumambulation, the contradiction should be minimized, which will be of indelible historical significance to the future inheritance of Tibetan Buddhism and the further development in Lhasa.关键词
