Abstract
abstract The requirements for spatial quality demands a change in the tools for spatial management. Urban design can meet these demands. Based on the review of urban design theory and practices in China, borrowed the urban design experiences of Seattle and Portland, this paper concludes the similarity and the differences between Chinese and foreign urban design practices. With regards to the current urban planning system, it proposes that urban design in China needs to focus more on public space elements. A new urban design framework is therefore established, including landscape districts, public centers and the plazas, roads and streets, green open space, commanding heights and visual corridors, history and memorials, street furniture and others. This framework is then utilized in the urban design of Pinqing Lake Area in Shanwei City.关键词
