Abstract

Abstract To explore the development trend of Chinese alloy technology, this paper analyzes the life cycle, applicants, focused areas and regional distribution based on patent applications by applying patent metrology. The results show: (1) alloy technology is experiencing a rapid development period; (2)universities and institutes including the Institute of Metal Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shang-hai Jiaotong University and Harbin Institute of Technology, etc. are the major alloy patent applicants; (3) zergal, nonferrous alloy and mg-based alloy embody the most focused alloy technology areas for patent application; (4) the technology advantage in east China, north China and northeast China is obviously. Accordingly, we can conclude that alloy technology focusing on zergal, nonferrous alloy and mg-based alloy shows rapid development trend; applicants concentrate on universities and institutes, and their comprehensive capacity of R &D is a bit weak; meanwhile, with applicants mainly come from economically developed areas and areas with relatively strong industrial ba-sis, regional distribution is imbalanced.
