Abstract
Miao People in northeast of Yunnan has some distinct characteristics in the funeral rites, such as HENGSHITINGSHI-the dead lies with his/her head to the east and feet to the west;ZHILUYISHI-someone prays for the dead soul, guiding him/her to the paradise; CHUXUN-the relatives and friends parade on the roads around the villages and sometimes mountains nearby; and XIEXIAO-a service is held in memory of dead. Such features with very mighty symbolic functions in the funeral rites bear the following three functions: the education function of national culture, the soothing function of emotion and the strengthening function of national identity.关键词
