Abstract

In current engineering geology survey, 3D geological modeling based on CATIA is technically popular. The 3D geo-logical model can be displayed and reported by CATIA, by which, the representation mode of visualization can be diversified, such as the rendering and virtual flying and roaming; however, the visual effect is unsatisfying. If the CATIA model is trans-formed to IGS or STL file and imported to 3DS MAX, the virtual roaming of the 3D geological model can be realized by using the strong animation and rendering functions of 3DS MAX, and the 3D model visualization effect is significantly improved. Based on CATIA and 3DS MAX and combining with a tunnel project, the function advantages of the software are demonstrated, a 3D model is established, and the study and application of the technology that dynamically expresses the interior space of the geological mod-el along the main longitudinal section of the tunnel are described.
