Abstract

Leaching of manganese from a low‐grade pyrolusite by cassava slag‐sulfuric acid method is a new technology which uses cassava residue as reducing agent in sulfuric acid medium .Orthogonal experiments were employed to examine the influences of initial concentrations of sulfuric acid ,leaching temperature ,reaction time ,and ratio of solid‐to‐liquid on manganese leaching rate .Results show that influencing order of the main factors on manganese leaching rate is reaction temperature ,initial sulfuric acid concentration ,leaching time ,and ratio of solid‐to‐liquid .The single‐factor experiment results show that the manganese leaching rate rises with the increase of temperature ,initial sulfuric acid concentration ,reaction time and amount of cassava slags .Suitable leaching conditions are determined as temperature of 90 ℃ ,initial sulfuric acid concentration of 200 g/L ,reaction time of 4 hours ,ratio of solid‐to‐liquid 1 ∶ 15 ,mass ratio of cassava slags to pyrolusite of 1 ∶ 6 .79 .Under above conditions ,the manganese leaching rate reaches 97 .32% .
