Effect of artificial reclamation on urban heat island in Shekou peninsula, Shenzhen
摘要
Abstract
In order to meet the growing demand of land, artificial reclamation has become one of the main ways to expand space in coastal areas worldwide. As China's first special economic zone and reform pioneer, Shenzhen City has experienced 30 years' rapid economic and urban development. At the same time, a large number of artificial reclamation projects have been carried out to cover the land deficit. Urban Heat Island (UHI), indicating urban thermal environment, has been enhanced along with artificial reclamation processes, which may change urban thermal environment and micro-climate, aggravate air pollution, and affect residential living environment. However, the research about the impact of artificial reclamation on UHI has not been seen too much. This study is aimed to examine the expansion of artificial reclamation and its effect on UHI in Shekou peninsula of Shenzhen, China. TM and ETM+images were analyzed, and the relationship between Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was explored. Results showed as follows:①from 1999 to 2009, the reclamation area in this region increased by 16 km2, almost equivalent to 1/3 of the entire Shekou peninsula in 1999;②the heat island area increased significantly, i.e., the strong heat island area in 2009 increased by more than 5.5 times compared with that in 1999, and the medium heat island area in 2009 was more than 4 times of the latter; ③the expansion of the heat island coincided with the increased artificial reclamation area, demonstrating that artificial reclamation significantly enhanced the Urban Heat Island;④the LST significantly negatively correlated with the NDVI (P<0.01).关键词
