Research and application of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases

Abstract
BACKGROUND:Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s exhibit the capacity of multi-lineage differentiation and show advantages in treatment of liver disease, nervous system disease, lung disease and kidney disease. There are increasing studies regarding treatment of cardiovascular diseases. OBJECTIVE:To review the application of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s in treatment of cardiovascular disease and the underlying mechanism. METHODS:A computer-based online retrieval was performed to search papers describing bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s for treatment of cardiovascular diseases published during 1985-01/2009-12 in CNKI and PubMed databases. The key words are bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s, cel s transplant, therapy, cardiovascular disease. Forty-two papers were included in the final analysis. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:A large number of studies have demonstrated that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s can differentiate into functional cardiac tissue and vascular endothelial tissue in infarct tissue and improve cardiac function. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cel s show superiority over conventional therapy in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.关键词
