Abstract
Objective: To assess the diagnostic value of combined detection of serum Golgi protein-73 (GP73), inter-leukin-6 (IL-6) and AFP in patients with primary hepatocellular carcinoma (PHCC). Methods Fifty patients with PHCC and 107 patients with liver cirrhosis were enrolled and all were pathologically confirmed; 50 healthy volunteers were served as controls. Serum GP73 and IL-6 were detected by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The diag-nostic value of GP73, IL-6 and AFP alone and in combination for hepatocellular carcinoma were evaluated via sensitivity and specificity. Results Serum level of IL-6 was significantly increased (P<0.05) in PHCC patients than those in cirrhotic patients and healthy individuals (147.57 pg/L vs 30.75 pg/L, 0.11 pg/L), and serum level of GP73 in PHCC patients (234.56 ng/mL) was also significantly increased (P<0.05) than those in patients with liver cirrhosis (128.04 ng/mL) and controls (43.87 ng/mL) (P<0.05). The positive rates of IL-6 and GP73 (68.0%, 60.0%) in PHCC patients were significantly higher than those in liver cirrhosis (27.1%, 37.4%) and controls (6.0%, 2.0%) (P<0.05). The sensitivity of GP73 detection combined with IL-6 or AFP (76.0%, 70.0%) for diagnosing PHCC was superior to AFP alone (46.0%); the sensitivity of combined use of these three serum markers was the highest (78.0%). GP73 level was not correlated with AFP concentra-tions, as well as IL-6. The positive rates of IL-6 and GP73 were 55.56%and 44.45%, respectively, in AFP-negative PHCC cases. Conclusions Both IL-6 and GP73 could be used as a new screening tumor marker, when combined with AFP would increase the diagnostic sensitivity for diagnosis of PHCC.关键词
