Influence of Depression on Cognitive Function of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract
Background Cognitive injury usually exists in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus( T2DM),and the recent researches have shown that depression is correlated with cognitive injury. Objective To investigate the influence of depression on the cognitive function of T2DM patients. Methods We enrolled 264 T2DM patients who were admitted into the Department of Endocrine of Tangshan Gongren Hospital from April 2013 to October 2014. The depression of the subjects was evaluated by Zung self-rating depression scale( SDS). The subjects with SDS standard score≥53 were assigned into group A (n=68)and the subjects with SDS standard score ﹤53 were assigned into group B(n =196). Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status( RBANS) were adopted to assess the cognitive function of the subjects,by which the scores of immediate memory,visuospatial,language,attention and delayed memory were recorded,and the influencing factors for the cognition of T2DM patients were analyzed. Results Among the 264 T2DM patients,68 patients had depression,with a prevalence of 25. 8%. The two groups were not significantly different(P﹥0. 05)in visuospatial,language and attention score;group A was lower ( P ﹤0. 05 ) than group B in the scores of immediate memory and delayed memory and RBANS standard score. After covariance analysis,group A was lower than group B in the score of delayed memory(F=5. 1,P﹤0. 05). The Pearson correlation analysis showed that the SDS standard score had linear negative correlation with the scores of immediate memory(r= -0. 14,P﹤0. 05)and delayed memory(r= -0. 21,P﹤0. 05)and RBANS standard score(r= -0. 13,P﹤0. 05). The multivariate linear regression analysis showed that SDS standard score was an influencing factor for the delayed memory for T2DM patients(b= -0. 22,β= -0. 21,t= -3. 00,P﹤0. 05). Conclusion Depression could aggravate the cognitive injury of T2DM patients.关键词
