Abstract

In order to solve the serious problem of nucleus rejection in Pinctada maxima, several nucleus-fixing techniques such as the use of nucleus-fixing apparatus, magnetic force, cut-stitching operation and cut adhesion by medical glue, were employed to nucleus implanting in the pearling of Pinctada maxima. Results showed that the nucleus retention rates by using the nucleus-fixing apparatus and magnetic force were the highest, arriving at 100%when there was no significant difference between the survival rate in the recuperation period and that of the control group. The nucleus retention rate of using cut-stitching operation method was also better, reaching 67% in the recuperation period. The survival rate of nucleated pearl oysters (76.7%) was lower than that of control group in the recuperation period. The use of cut adhesion by medical glue had no effect on the nucleus-fixing, the survival rate and pearl retention rate in the recuperation period were not significantly different from those of the control group.
