Abstract
Fractures occur very often in guide-rods of air-valve-bridges for a type of marine medium-speed diesel engines. The fractures mainly appear in the guide-rod on the side near the exhaust-valve, and a few of them appear on the side near the air inlet-valve. In order to find the reason of fracture, the fracture surface of the valve-bridge guide-rod was scanned by electron microscope. By analyzing the fracture surface, it was concluded that the guide rod fracture belongs to fatigue fracture. Then, by establishing a simplified physical model for entire valve system, several critical stresses were computed by means of the finite element software NASTRON. Finally, the main reason of the guide-rod fracture was determined.关键词
