Abstract

A series of composite oxide catalysts,namely CuTiO3,Mn2TiO5,CuMn2O4 and CuMn2TiO6,for the catalytic combustion of methane were prepared by sol-gel method. Then CuMn2TiO6 catalysts were prepared by co-precipitation and impregnation method,separately. The eff ects of chemical composition and preparation methods on the structure and properties of the catalysts were investigated by means of XRD,H2-TPR,N2 adsorption-desorption and TEM. The performances of the catalysts in the catalytic combustion of methane were evaluated in a fixed-bed reactor. The results showed that the introduction of Ti could inhibit the growth of catalyst particles and improve the reducibility of the catalysts,which enhanced their catalytic activity. Furthermore,the XRD result indicated that Mn2O3 and Mn1.5Cu1.5O4 were the major active species. The catalysts prepared by the sol-gel and impregnation methods mostly consisted of CuO,Mn2O3 and Cu1.5Mn1.5O4,while the catalysts prepared by the co-precipitation method mainly consisted of spinel Cu1.5Mn1.5O4,which had much higher catalytic activity in the methane combustion. The methane conversion over the Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 catalyst reached 90% under the conditions of GHSV 12 000 h-1 and 432℃.
