Abstract
The Buddha Festival was an important holiday which the public took part in widely in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. There were many descriptions about the Buddha Festival in the Ming and Qing's novels. These descriptions have signiifcant values of the folklore. They relfected vividly many folk custom 's phenomenons such as the fast ceremonies of the Buddha Festival, pilgrimage,freeing captive animals and distributing predestination beans.The descriptions of the Ming and Qing's novels indicated that the secularization of the Buddha Festival in the Ming and Qing Dynasties was very clear.There was harmonious and happy atmosphere between monks and laymen. The descriptions about the Buddha Festival had the important functions of literature –displaying too.As a kind of ifeld, the Buddha Festival usually served as the premise and background of the formation and development of the relations between the ifgures from the standpoint of characters.As the element of the structure of the text, the Buddha Festival not only marked time but also stretched and sublimated the aesthetic space and implication of the works from the standpoint of the narrative.关键词
