Abstract

Objective:To discuss the Influence of X-ray on resistance to infection of oral epithelial cells to Candida albicans. Method:The oral epithelial cells were irradiated with 1,3,5,7 and 9 Gy. Oral epithelial cell viability was measured by MTT assay. The number of Candida albicans cells that were invading oral epithelial cells was determined using a protocol called nystatin protection assay. Adherence assays were performed with the oral epithelial cell line according to a previously described protocol calcofluor white staining assay. Result:MTT assay of the oral epithelial cells showed a decrease of cell viability directly with an increase in irradiation dose (P<0.05). Compared with the control group,the group which irradiated with 9 Gy showed significant reduction in invasion(P <0.05),but had an increased ability in adhesion(P <0.05). Conclusion:MTT assay of the oral epithelial cells showed a decrease of cell viability as the irradiation dose increased gradually. The cell viability of the oral epithelial cells statistically decreased when the irradiated dose was 5 Gy (P<0.05). X-ray had a significant influence on resisting to infection of oral epithelial cell to Candida albicans ,but the specific impact of the mechanism needs a further study.
