Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3) and p-STAT3 signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(p-STAT3) in human squamous carcinoma cells(SCC) and to explore the relationship be-tween p-STAT3 expression and clinicopathological characteristics of SCC. Methods The transcription of STAT3 in SCC tissues and paracancerous tissues from 36 SCC patients were detected by reverse transcription PCR. The protein expression levels of both STAT3 and p-STAT3 were detected by immunohistochemistry. Patient age, gender, tumor size, and pathological grade were compared between p-STAT3 positive group and p-STAT3 negative group. Results The level of STAT3 mRNA was significantly higher in SCC tissues than that in paracancerous tissues(P<0. 01). The positive expression rates of STAT3 protein and p-STAT3 protein in SCC tissues were higher than those in paracancerous tissues(P<0. 01). The tumor size and pathological grade were significantly different between p-STAT3 positive group and p-STAT3 negative group(P<0. 01). Conclusion The abnormal expression and activation of STAT3 exist in SCC, and p-STAT3 may be a potential tumor marker to predict the prognosis of SCC.关键词
