Effects of Short-term Elevated CO2 Concentration on Photosynthetic Physiology and Growth of Gerbera jamesonii

Abstract
Two kinds of CO2 concentration[T1:(700 ± 50)μmol/mol,T2:(900 ± 50)μmol/mol] treat-ments were conducted in open-top plastic greenhouses to investigate their effects on photosynthetic physi-ology and growth in Gerbera jamesonii, compared to the atmospheric CO2 concentration( CK, approximate-ly 380μmol/mol) . The results showed that compared with CK,when the plants were treated for 30 days, the leaf net photosynthetic rate( Pn) of G. jamesonii increased by 68%—80% in T1 and 74%—85% in T2,but the Gs and Tr significantly decreased;elevated CO2 concentration also significantly increased the contents of soluble sugar,starch,but decreased the contents of soluble proteins;the biomass determination in T1 and T2 revealed that plant fresh weight and dry weight was raised 18%,20% and 18%,21%,re-spectively. These results demonstrated that elevated CO2 concentration had significantly positive effects on the growth of G. jamesonii. Even though there were no significant differences between (700 ± 50)μmol/mol and (900 ± 50)μmol/mol CO2 concentration treatments on the basis of the statistical data,(700 ± 50 )μmol/mol CO2 concentration exhibited more favorable cost savings and environmental friendly in com-mential production of G. jamesonii.关键词
