Determine Critical Crack Size of Elastic-plastic Fracture Mechanical in LBB Analysis

Abstract
The calculation of the critical crack size based on the elastic-plastic fracture mechanical (EPFM)method is one of the main difficulties in the leak-before-break (LBB)evaluation,and the crack driving force diagram (J -a diagram)and the stability assessment diagram (J -T diagram)are applied to calculate the critical size of the crack in the engineering.Concerned on the complex of the diagrams and the inaccuracy of the result,a numerical method for calculating the critical size is induced based on the stability requirement of the EPRI engineering method.The results of the case study show that there may be not straight lines for the driving force curves in the J -T diagrams,and this will be not consistent with the hypothesis of the simplified analysis.So the results of the simplified analysis may be not accurate.And it is conservative to calculate the critical crack size by the J -T diagram method,and the conservative is small when the load is not significant.But when the load is large,the conservative may be as high as 40%of the accurate result.关键词
