Interior Booming Noise Reduction in New Minivans Based on Axle-shaft Torsional Stiffness Modification

Abstract
The interior booming noise of new minivans caused by drivetrain torsional vibration was studied. The model of a typical FR minivan made in China was built for lumped-parameter torsional vibration analysis of the drivetrain. The model was validated by a drivetrain torsional vibration test. Then, the characteristics and the stiffness sensitivities of the minivan drivetrain torsional vibration were analyzed based on the validated model. The axle-shaft torsional stiffness was found to be the most sensitive parameter to the minivan drivetrain torsional vibration. An approach to reduce the drivetrain torsional vibration by modifying the axle-shaft torsional stiffness was proposed and the validation experiment was conducted. The results show that the well-designed torsional stiffness of the axle-shaft can effectively reduce the drivetrain torsional vibration and the interior booming noise so that the acoustic comfort of the new minivans is improved.关键词
