Influences of OSAHS on Cognitive Function and Behavior of Preschool Children:A Case-control Study

Abstract
Objective To explore the influence of obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) on the cognitive function and behavior of preschool children, and put forward corresponding countermeasures, and to provide theoretical basis for improving the cognitive and behavior ability of OSAHS preschool children. Methods Sixty-six cases of preschool children in the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Normal University and ENT Surgery Department of Hunan Children ’s Hospital from November 2014 to 2015 July were randomly involved as case group and another 66 cases of normal preschool children from local kindergartens as control group. The cognitive function and behavior of children in two groups were tested by functional assessment of cognitive function and Child Behavior Checklist. The scores of cognitive function and behavior of the children in both groups were compared by the paired t test. Results (1) there were statistically significant differences in the scores of children ’s knowledge, picture vocabulary, arithmetic and perception in both groups (P<0.01); the operation test showed that there was statistical significance in the comparison of all items ( P<0.01) except animals’ laying eggs (P>0.05). In IQ test, the score of VIQ, PIQ and FIQ showed statistical significance (P<0.01);(2) The social ability test indicated the score of communicative ability and the total score of social ability of both groups were significantly different (P<0.05). In behavioral performance evaluation, there was no significant difference between the scores of anxiety/depression and sexual problems (P>0.05), but the rest items were statistically significant (P<0.05). In the evaluation of behavior problems, the scores of internalized behavior and externalized behavior and the total score of behavior problems were statistically significant (P<0.01). Conclusion OSAHS has a wide influence on cognitive function and behavior of preschool children, and corresponding measures should be taken as soon as possible to reduce the damage caused by OSAHS.关键词
