Abstract

Gas-liquid and liquid-liquid two-phase flow through T-junction is most often characterized by a maldistribution phe-nomenon of the phases between the inlets and outlets.The degree of phase redistribution is closely related to the medium physical properties,structure of the separator and the operating parameters.Heavy oil and water are selected as the experimental fluids. Experiments on the separation behavior of the combined T-junction separator installed with three branches were carried out.The results show that it is a practical way for the pre-separation of heavy oil and water with the combined T-junction separator.As far as this study is concerned,an increase in the inlet liquid velocity and decrease in the split ratio would increase the water volumet-ric fraction in the down outlet and the separation efficiency.To some extent,an increase in the inlet oil volumetric fraction would promote the free water removal.When the oil volumetric fraction is 10.67% and 17.5%,water cut in the up horizontal outlet may fall below 30% as the split ratio is close to the inlet oil content which could meet the requirements of the electrostatic coa-lesce for further phase separation.
