Abstract
The stagnation syndrome theory originates from the theory of "five-stagnation" and "stagnation caused by emotional disorders" in The Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic. ZHANG Zhongjing,a physician in the East Han Dynasty,regarded "stagnation" as the key factor in the occurrence of disease,a relatively com-plete syndrome differentiation and treatment system for stagnation syndrome being formed. Physicians of later generations developed this theory,especially "six-stagnation" theory by ZHU Danxi. The essence of stagnation syndrome theory is as follows:the stagnation of qi,blood and body fluids cause disease,and qi stagnation is the chief cause. It plays a key role in disease mechanism,and long term stagnation of qi leading to accu-mulation and stagnation of food,phlegm and blood stasis,manifesting as abdominal masses,scrofula,goiter and tumor. These visible pathological products can't be removed at once,resulting into precancerous disease and precancerosis,and even cancer without timely intervention and treatment. So stagnation syndrome theory is significant in cancer occurrence,and therefore it should be further studied to find out its application in pre-cancerous disease as well as precancerosis,and to provide a reference for clinical treatment.关键词
