Effect of Acupuncture on Anxiety and Depression Due to Vertebrobasilar Insufficient Vertigo

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture in treating anxiety and depression due to vertebrobasilar insufficient vertigo (VBIV).Method Eighty-two patients with anxiety and depression due to VBIV were randomized into a treatment group and a control group, 41 cases in each group. The control group was intervened by conventional medication, while the treatment group was by acupuncture in addition to the treatments given to the control group. The Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS) were evaluated before and after intervention.Result The HAMA, HAMD, SAS, and SDS scores were significantly changed after intervention in both groups (P<0.05). After treatment, the HAMA score in the treatment group was significantly different from that in the control group (P<0.05). The TESS scores were significantly changed after treatment in both groups (P<0.01). After intervention, the TESS score in the treatment group was significantly different from that in the control group (P<0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture is an effective approach in treating anxiety and depression due to VBIV, and it can reduce the occurrence of adverse reactions.关键词
