Abstract

Zone pressure drop is one of the important factors affecting the combustion state of cigarette directly. In order to investigate the dynamic zone pressure drop and combustion temperature relationship during cigarette smoking, an in-line pressure transducer system was designed and used to determine the pressure drop during puffing and smoldering in real time. The zone pressure drop and zone temperature during an individual puffing time of 0-1 second under ISO smoking regimen were determined with the puff duration of 0.25 sec as a zone. The variation of the zone pressure drop and the zone temperature were studied on a puff-by-puff basis. The yields of tar and nicotine and water contents in the total particulate matter were also determined on a puff-by-puff basis, and the influences of the zone pressure drop and zone temperature on the yields of these routine analytes in each puff of mainstream smoke were analyzed. The results showed that: 1) The corresponding peak value, mean value and total value of the zone pressure drop of different puffs all displayed a decrease-increase-decrease trend from the second to sixth puffs, and the corresponding zone temperature and the zone pressure drop of each puff had a similar variation trend. The peak value, mean value and total value of the zone pressure drop significantly positively correlated to the zone temperature (α<0.001). 2) The zone differential pressure △P significantly negatively correlated to the yield of tar per puff (α<0.001). The results provide new details on the dynamic relationship between the zone pressure drop and zone temperature.
