Synthesis and surface properties of disodium monoalkyl diphenyl oxide disulfonate

Abstract
Diphenyl oxide with different carbon chains were synthesized by the alkylation reaction of fatty alcohols (C8, C12, C16) and diphenyl oxide under the catalysis of a self- made catalyst. Monoalkyl diphenyl oxide were obtained by distil ing the alkylation products under vacuum. Then monoalkyl diphenyl oxide were sulfonat⁃ed with (20% free SO3) and neutralized with sodium hydroxide solution to obtain disodium monoalkyl diphenyl oxide disulfonate (MADS). The structure of product was identified by HLPC, infrared spectroscopy and electro⁃spray ionization- mass spectrometry. The surface properties of MADS were systematical y investigated, and the effect of inorganic salt (NaCl) on the surface property of MADS was also studied. The results showed that the critical micel e concentration (cmc) decreased with the increase of alkyl chain length, while the γcmc showed the contrast tendency. cmc and theγcmc decreased with the increase of the concentration of NaCl.关键词
