Synthesis and Photophysical Properties of Phenanthroline Monoamine Schiff Base Derivatives and Their Europium Complexes

Abstract
In order to change the ligand type of the rare earth europium complexes and develop materials of better red light emission, three novel europium complexes were synthesized with Eu(Ⅲ) as the central atom, acetylacetone ( acac) as the first ligand, and three phenanthroline monoamine schiff base derivatives as the respective second ligand. The complexes were tested with UV and fluorescence spectra and their photophysical properties were also discussed. The results showed that the absorption in the UV region was enhanced gradually with the increase of the conjugation degree of the second ligand. The fluorescence emission peak was at about 613 nm attributed to the 5 D0→7 F2 characteristic transition of Eu3+. All three complexes emitted bright red fluorescence under UV exposure.关键词
