Surface Modification of Nylon Fiber Using Atmospheric Repetitive Nanosecond Pulse Discharge

Abstract
To study the application of large-scale plasma surface modification in fabric,we designed a repetitive nanosecond-pulse diffuse discharge reactor using multirod-to-cylinder electrode configturation, which would generate a large-scale of diffuse non-thermal plasmas steadily at atmospheric pressure in the absence of any barrier dielectric materials.We used this reactor to treat the PA66 fiber with the mesh number being varied.The experiments of wicking property were performed to measure the hydrophilicity changes of PA66 treated under different discharge conditions.Meanwhile, the modified PA66 fibers were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) to detect the changes in surface microstructure and the effect on quantities and types of polar functional groups, respectively.Moreover, the influences of treatment time and treatment frequency were investigated under different discharge conditions.The results show that the plasma can change the surface of PA66 and improve the hydrophilicity.关键词
