Abstract
Objective To develop a Chinese version of FATCOD (Frommelt Attitude Toward Care of the Dying) Scale after cross-culture adjustment. Methods Through cross-cultural adaptation and investigation, the Chinese version of FATCOD Scale was established.A cross-sectional study was conducted among 265 oncology nurses then the reliability and validity of the Chinese version were assessed. Results The Chinese version of the FATCOD Scale was easy to understand. Most respondents finished the whole scale within 20 minutes. And the effective collecting rate of questionnaires was 94.6%.The internal consistency reliability evaluated by Cronbach’a was 0.805, and the split-half reliability coefficient 0.697 for the whole 30 items. Structural equation models and factor analysis displayed good construction of the Chinese version of the scale working together with the Japanese version and the Chinese version of FATCOD Scale was divided into 2 subscales: positive attitude toward caring for the dying patient (FATCOD I) and perception of patient and family-centered care (FATCOD II). Conclusion The Chinese version of FATCOD Scale has good reliability and validity, and should be a good instrument for the assessment of oncology nurses ’ attitude toward caring for the dying.关键词
