Effect on and Factors Affecting Noise Reduction by Plant Communitiesat Parks in Fuzhou

摘要

Abstract

Twenty-seven plant communities at 4city parks in Fuzhou were selected for the study. Field measurements on noise levels 3 m and 6 m from the source toa plant community were obtained.Noise attenuation was calculated to obtain the relative noise reduction rate.The factor and correlation analyses were applied to determine the factors associated with the reduction.The results showed that (a)the greatest attenuation rate of 34.60% on theWhite noise was achieved by the palm trees;(b)that of 33.57%on the Pink noiseby the bamboos;and,(c)that of 27.74% on the Brown noise by the broadleaved deciduous plants.The important factors affecting the reduction of the White and Brown noise included the plant coverage,bare ground ratio,and average distance between noise source and community,with the correlation coefficients (P <0.01 )of 0.749,0.259,and 0.251, respectively,for the White noise,and 0.730,0.464,and 0.271,respectively,for the Brown noise.For the Pink noise,the key factors were coverage,average distance,and bare ground ratio,with the correlation coefficients (P<0.01)of 0.467,0.207,and 0.183,respectively.
