Effects of Dietary Lipid Level on Growth Performance, Digestive Enzyme Activities and Antioxidant Ability of Juvenile Paramisgurnus dabryanus

Abstract

This experiment was aimed to investigate the effects of dietary lipid level on growth performance, digestive enzyme activities and antioxidant ability of juvenile Paramisgurnus dabryanus. Six diets were formula-ted by containing 2.50%, 4.49%, 6.48%, 8.47%, 10.46% and 12.45% lipid, respectively. A total of 1 620 juvenile Paramisgurnus dabryanus with an initial body weight of (0.15±0.01) g were randomly divided into 6 groups with 3 replicates per group and 90 fish per replicate. Each diet was fed one group of 90 fish for 60 d. The results showed that specific growth rate (SGR) had the highest value (4.99%/d) when the dietary lipid level was 8.47%, and it was significantly higher than that in other experimental groups ( P<0.05) except the 10.46% group (P>0.05); feed conversion ratio (FCR) had the lowest value (1.09) when the dietary lipid level was 8.47%, and it was significantly lower than that in other experimental groups ( P<0.05) except the 10.46% group (P>0.05). By quadratic polynomial regression analysis, dietary lipid levels were 9.18% and 9.00% when the juvenile Paramisgurnus dabryanus had the optimal SGR and FCR, respectively. With the diet-ary lipid level increasing, the hepatopancreas and foregut protease and lipase activities of fish were increased at first and then decreased, and all them had the highest values when the dietary lipid level was 8. 47%, which were significantly higher than those in other experimental groups (P<0.05) except the 10.46% group (P>0.05); the amylase activities in hepatopancreas and foregut were decreased at first and then tend to stabilized. Both of the superoxide dismutase ( SOD ) and catalase ( CAT ) activities in hepatopancreas were increased at first and then decreased with the dietary lipid level increasing, and all them had the highest values when the di-etary lipid level was 8.47%, which were significantly higher than those in other experimental groups ( P<0.05) except the 10. 46% group ( P>0. 05 ) . Above results show that suitable dietary lipid level can improve the growth, protease and lipase activities and antioxidant ability of juvenile Paramisgurnus dabryanus. We suggest that the optimal dietary lipid level for juvenile Paramisgurnus dabryanus is 8.47% to 10.46% through compre-hensive analysis of growth performance, digestive enzyme activities and antioxidant ability.
