Abstract

The study was aimed to explore and analyze the influences of motor vehicle headlamps light sources upon the retro-reflecting devices.The experiments included gauging spectra distributions of H1, H7, D2S and LED motor vehicle headlamps with a spectrometer, and the spectral reflectance curves of white, amber and red color retro-reflecting devices were also measured.Both the results contributed to the calculation of coefficient of luminous intensity and chromaticity coordinates of retro-reflecting devices under different light sources.The research indicated that, by contrast with white retro-reflecting devices, the amber and red devices are more likely to be affected by the change of light source spectra.Also, the coefficient of luminous intensity of amber and red retro-reflecting devices under the illumination of D2S or LED are both weaker than under the standard light source A.Meanwhile, with D2S or LED, the amber retro-reflecting device was green cast, and the red retro-reflecting device was yellow cast.Thus, neither of the above chromaticity coordinates was able to meet the requirements of GB 4785—2008.This study is expected to be significant to the design and the test of LED motor vehicle headlamps as well as retro-reflecting devices.
