Study on the relationship between earthquakes and faults in Anhui Province based on GIS

摘要

Abstract

In this paper, based the database of faults and data in Anhui Province, which is established on Arc Catalog, using the buffer analysis, statistical analysis and stack analysis, it is found that more than 97% earthquakes are contained in the buffer of 25 km radius. The numbers of earthquakes in unit length of faults are obtained based on the superposition results. The analysis data show Luoerling-Tudiling fault, Qingshan-Xiaotian fault, and Meishan-Longhekou fault are with the strongest earthquake activity of. Finally, through the fault and earthquake buffer analysis results, it is found that seismicity distribution is concentrated in the intersection of faults and strong earthquakes more likely occur at the intersection of thrust fault. The results demonstrate that GIS is an effective mean to study the relationship between earthquakes and faults.
