Abstract

In order to obtain acrylonitrile butadiene Styrene copolymer (ABS) composites with good dispersion and interface properties, graft macromolecular coupling agents were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using styrene (St), butyl methacrylate (BMA) andγ-methacryloxypropyltri- methoxy silane (KH-570) as monomers. Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-NMR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) were used to characterize the macromolecular coupling agents, and the effects of agents on ABS/ SiO2composites were studied. The results show that interface adhesion is significantly improved after treating SiO2 surface with macromolecular coupling agents and the impact strength can reach to 23.48 kJ⋅m−2. Compared with composites without coupling agents, the impact strength increases by 43.87% for the composites treated with macromolecular coupling agents.
