Abstract
Objective:To evaluate and compare gingival crevicular fluid (GCF)leptin levels before and after initial therapy of periodontitis.Then to obtain an insight into leptin’s possible role in periodontal therapy. Method:A total of 33 subjects, they were categorized into 3 groups of 11 subjects each,based on their periodontal status,as follows:Group Ⅰ(mild periodontitis);GroupⅡ (moderate periodontitis);GroupⅢ (severe periodontitis). GCF samples were collected before and after periodontal initial therapy,and samples were analyzed for leptin using ELISA. Result:In all the three groups,the concentration of leptin after the treatment was higher than before ( P<0.01). Leptin was related to bleeding index before the therapy of mild periodontitis (r = 0.675) (P<0.05), and had a negative correlation with probing depth before the therapy of severe periodontitis(r=0.799) (P< 0.01);The probing depth of treated severe periodontitis was shallower than that before the therapy (P<0.01),the attachment loss of treated severe periodontitis was decreased.(P<0.05). Conclusion:Leptin levels in GCF was closely related to the therapy of periodontitis, and the leptin levels may be used as an objective indicator to evaluate the therapy of periodontitis.关键词
